“Hear Colin’s story and you will question your own”

“Meeting Colin reminds you that greatness isn’t reserved for extraordinary people. Sometimes it is ordinary people making an extraordinary decision about what they are going to do with the life they have been given.”

Andrew
Event attendee

I first met Colin Furphy when he was a guest speaker at a women’s pitching event. I had no idea at the time that I was about to hear a story that would stay with me long after the evening was over.

Colin’s journey is extraordinary. He has endured a devastating battle with epilepsy that took him to the darkest of places and brought him face-to-face with his own mortality. Yet, from that point, he made a decision that would redefine his life.

Rather than allowing his circumstances to determine his future, Colin set himself a series of enormous personal goals, committed himself to achieving them and simply got on with the business of living. He underwent major surgery against extraordinary odds and went on to achieve almost everything he set his mind to — including standing on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

But for me, Colin’s real inspiration isn’t found in a list of achievements. It is found in the person he has become because of everything he has experienced.

Colin is a genuine gentle giant — humble, warm and remarkably grounded. There is no bravado and no sense that what he has achieved somehow makes him more important than anyone else. Quite the opposite. His experiences have given him an extraordinary perspective on what it means to be alive and an absolute belief in what human beings are capable of when we stop placing limits on ourselves.

Having stared down his own mortality, Colin understands something most of us intellectually know but too easily forget: we get one life.

His message is wonderfully simple. Set goals that frighten you more than a little. Believe that you are capable of more. Don’t allow circumstances to define what is possible. And then, in Colin’s wonderfully understated way, “get on with it.”

Colin Furphy has made that decision. And hearing his story challenges the rest of us to ask ourselves whether we are making the most of ours.

“He helps people see possibility in themselves.”

“Colin has a rare way of looking beyond where someone is today and helping them imagine where they could be tomorrow.”

“Sometimes the most powerful thing another person can give us is the belief that something better is possible.”

“Colin has that ability.”

I’ve known Colin Furphy for many years, and if there is one thing that defines him, it is his ability to help people see possibility in themselves.

Colin has a rare way of looking beyond where someone is today and helping them imagine where they could be tomorrow. He understands that life does not always follow a straight path, and that setbacks, uncertainty and change can often become the starting point for something much greater.

What I admire most about Colin is the authenticity behind his message. His belief in transformation is not simply something he talks about — it comes from lived experience, resilience, courage and a genuine desire to see other people succeed.

He has an extraordinary ability to connect with people, challenge limiting beliefs and remind them that their circumstances do not have to define their future.

Colin encourages people to dream again, to take the next step, and to recognise strengths and opportunities within themselves that they may have forgotten were there.

His philosophy of turning “impossible” into “I’m possible” is more than a clever phrase. It represents the way Colin approaches life: with optimism, determination and a belief that meaningful change can begin the moment we decide to see things differently.

Sometimes the most powerful thing another person can give us is the belief that something better is possible.

Colin has that ability.

I would highly recommend Colin to anyone looking for a speaker, coach or mentor who can inspire people to rediscover their confidence, challenge what they believe is possible and take meaningful steps toward the life they want to create.
